June 9, 2010 8:11 pm ET

Flash and HTML are no longer mutually exclusive terms. Thanks to the latest innovation at Wix.com, the Flash website builder now includes an HTML widget, enabling users to embed HTML code directly onto their sites. Users can now have full access to the range of both Flash and HTML design capabilities, and it is all completely free.

With Wix, learning how to make a website as simple as clicking and dragging design elements across a web page. Users can browse Wix’s impressive Flash template galleries, and customize the design elements of a pre-designed free website template or build a website from scratch. Any item in Wix can be customized by clicking on it, including text, images, galleries, Google maps, music players, clip art, animation files and more. By upgrading to a premium package, users can point their Wix sites at their own domain, track their online success via Google Analytics, and gain access to many other perks and treats.

Now, Wix users have complete control over the design of their Flash websites. With the HTML component, users can add widgets directly onto their sites and enjoy the full range of benefits granted by both Flash and HTML. Along with Flash design elements such as animated images and icons, seamless page transitions, automated galleries, rollover effects and emitters, users can now embed site counters, Twitter feeds, blogs, forums, chat rooms, live chat, polls and more. Wix websites are now fully equipped, to include both visually stimulating and functionally sophisticated design elements.

CEO & Founder of Wix.com, Avishai Avrahami, is thrilled with the release of this much anticipated component: "Wix is all about giving our users the freedom and the flexibility to create stunning, high quality websites. The HTML widget is the gateway we give our users for bringing the best of the web into their Wix sites."

Don’t think that this means Wix is becoming more complicated. In classic Wix style, all the work has been done already, and HTML widgets come with their own simple set of steps for quick and easy customization and embedment. From the Widgets section of Wix, select HTML and choose from the gallery of widgets. The “blank” HTML widget enables the more technically advanced Wix users to create their own custom-designed widgets.

This marks the first stage in an exciting new period of Wix history, as the company plans on expanding and fine-tuning the powerful addition to the builder. Avrahami explains, "We have already seen many examples of Wix sites using HTML…The HTML is still in beta but Wix users are already taking it to places beyond our imagination."

Wix.com was started in 2006. It is backed by Mangrove Capital Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Benchmark Capital. The company is headquartered in New York, and has offices in Tel Aviv.
