New Partnership Provides Life and Business Skills Training and Income Opportunities for At-Risk Youth

Dealing with at-risk youth has long concerned parents, schools, government, and civic groups. But the dropout rate and the costs of failed education continue to rise.

A new partnership between two Raleigh corporations offers a clever and unique solution.

SyntiantTM, Inc. has partnered with One Village – One Destiny under Brotherhood & Sisterhood, CDC (OV-ODuBS) to create Syntiant4GTM, a SyntiantTM, Inc. operating unit. This new partnership is working together to present 360 Turn Around Project (360 TAP), created by OV-ODuBS. This project provides at-risk youth with an opportunity to escape the vicious cycle of destructive behaviors caused by poverty, such as gang activity, drugs, petty crime, truancy, or dropping out of school completely. It combines life and business skills training with income earning opportunities. Participating youth will benefit by strengthening their workforce readiness and social media marketing talents, thereby enhancing their cultural awareness and academic enrichment.

OV-ODuBS founder Akiba Byrd is excited about this alliance. “The creation of Syntiant4GTM moves us one step closer to realizing our goal of leveling the playing field and providing real opportunities for our participants,” he said. “The key to the 360 TAP learning environment is that youth will feel safe and be able to avoid counter-productive peer pressure. What makes this unique is we’re providing year-round opportunities through academics, arts, and sports programs. This sharpens our participants’ focus on developing the necessary skills to succeed with healthy, productive life choices.”

Many at-risk youth programs fail because funding dries up. Even if participants complete those programs, they often have no obvious path to earning an income. With 360 TAP, youth can earn an income through the sale of CLEARTM mobile broadband, and other products and services.

SyntiantTM founder Jason Clark amplified the at-risk youth problem. “The measurable dollar cost of teenage dropouts is staggering. But what about all the pain and anguish that you can’t measure? It’s there and it’s destructive,” he said. “But now, by combining the for-profit and non-profit business models, we are creating a self-sustaining replicable social entrepreneurship franchise. We can help others create a more promising future now.”
